My daughter will be turning 22 months old on Dec 14th. She has a VP shunt.
Her head size was 49 1/2 when she was born and at 5 days old when her shunt was placed it went down to 46. Since was 3 months old it has been at 50-51 and it is still that size and she is almost 2.
I have been asking her old nuerologist about reshaping her head since she was 6 months old and always getting the same answer, no we can't do that.
Her new nuerologist that she started seeing in Sept says yes we can. She goes in for her 3D CT Scan on Dec 14th and we see the surgeon on the 16th.
We have been wanting this suregry for so long now, but now that the chance is here we have so many questions running through our minds.
Has anyone ever had their heads reshaped due to hydrocephalus and did it cause you to lose the things that you had learned?
I am worried that my daughter will back slide from all that we have taught her. She was never supposed to feed herself, crawl, pull up, climb furniture, babble. She is doing all that and is now trying to walk.
Her old nuerologist didn't care what she could do, her new nuerologist is excited about all that she is doing.
How long was the hospital stay? I have a son at home and need to make arrangements on who's going to take care of him if we have to stay in the hospital so he does not miss school.
Can anyone please help easy my mind on what we are to expect from this

Your daughter sounds like a fighter! I don't have experience with the head reshaping with surgery - but we are getting ready to try it using a molding helmet. I wish your daughter the best possible outcome; it is hard to trust the doctors with something so precious, huh?
