    Hi everyone,

My name is Greg. In June I had my second surgery for hydrocephalus but unfortunately my insurance was woefully inadequate. My surgery and stay in the ICU cost more than $13,500 but my insurance covered only $3,200 of it. I have other outpatient bills, and the doctors want me to continue to see them as an outpatient for more testing after concerns that I might have had a "transitory stroke" or seizures.

Does anybody have advice on where I can find assistance with these costs?

Oh, also, my insurance just expired so I'm uninsured and not eligible for medicaid.

Gregbily. you can get medicaid for the hospital bills, or you can get on social security. (SSI). I have it because I have shunts. That will pay for the bills and everything, but just to make sure, call Social Security office in your state.

    Kris,

Unfortunately if you work, and depending on how much you make from that job, in most states you will not Qualify for SSI or Medicaid/Medical.

When I started working in 2002, I lost SSI first and then lost the Medical in 2006 after I moved back to Louisiana from Maryland.
