I'm wondering what type of shunt you have? Also, when does your neck hurt? If it's at night, do you have the head of your bed elevated?

Sometimes you can have a leak in the tubing in the neck area. I would imagine it would be uncomfortable as the shunt discharged CSF periodically. I would mention it to your neurosurgeon and see if it warrants checking out.

i have a VP Shunt, i have constant neck pains which makes me nauseated and a little dizzy at times. when i cant handle it, i usually take a shower and lay down. Is this normal to have? I had my last revision 5 or 6 months ago because they found out that the tube was getting tangled in my stomach so they moved it down. But he didnt open my head this time. Thanks for all the responses.

Definitely the 1st place to check is with your neurosurgeon to make sure nothing's going on with your shunt. If that checks out ok then simple things might help. My daughter used to have neck pains on and off. Things that helped were taking a nap, sleeping with a 30 degree angle for her bed with insurance paying for a hospital bed for this and drinking enough fluids every day. If you never had problems like this before and started to have these problems since your last surgery, it makes me think it's related. Again, if the neurosurgeon clears you of any shunt problem, then craniosacral therapy can help. The problem may have come from the surgery itself. My daughter had severe neck problems once and after 1 session of craniosacral therapy, her problem went away. She's 26 so off and on after surgeries or different times in her life, she has had neck problems. So far she's always been able to resove them. Has just taken problem solving and trying different things to handle them so far. Wishing you well.
