<description>&lt;p&gt;I dunno about MRI's vs CT's being safer. However if you have an MRI you want to make sure that there will be someone available to reprogram your shunt. My son has a Programmable shunt, and just had an MRI last week... Second since he has gotten his programmable shunt. It went fine, and the doctor came down to radiology to reprogram his shunt after the MRI was done.
